Maria Da Graca Da Silva

Country: Timor-Leste

My name is Maria da Graça E.C.G. da Silva and I come from Timor-Leste, which is the closest neighbor of Australia. It’s only 45 minutes flying from Darwin to Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste.

I have been living in Canberra for a year now. I first came to Australia to accompany my husband for his job with our two-year-old son.

It is my first time being here in Australia and I enjoy living here, despite the cold during the winter. I like Canberra and I think it is a magnificent place, a quite city and suitable place to study.

Before coming here to Australia, I used to work for my government in Timor-Leste in the Ministry of Labour, in the International Co-operation Department. I found that English language played an important role in my job that is why I wish to learn the language in order to help me with my future job.  I'm also planning to pursue my study in an English-speaking country, so I took the opportunity of being here to learn and improve my English.

I chose ANU College due to its quality and its popularity as the best college for studying English in Australia. Currently, I am attending the course for 6 weeks, and I realize that ANU College has good facilities and services, great curriculum, and excellent teachers. The teachers are friendly and helpful. Apart from teaching, they help and guide students in answering issues related to their study. There are also different services available for those who really need it. All knowledge that I have learned and received from the College is very useful and has built my confidence - especially in speaking and writing - though it will take some times to really improve my English.
