Why Lancaster?

  • We’ve invested more than £400 million into our campus since 2002, creating new academic facilities, improved teaching spaces and student social facilities, including a £20 million sports centre.
  • 91% of final year students were satisfied with their course, according to the National Student Survey 2012. This is higher than the national average of 85%.
  • In international league tables, Lancaster consistently ranks in the global top 1% of universities.
  • High levels of graduate employment. Almost three quarters of students at Lancaster get graduate level jobs (Higher Education Statistics Agency).
  • 92% of research at Lancaster is recognised as world leading and internationally significant. Our top performance in successive research assessment exercises means we are highly ranked in the UK.
  • Award-winning accommodation. Lancaster retained the prestigious title of ‘Best University Halls’ and won several other awards in The National Student Housing Survey 2012. We are one of only five institutions to achieve the International Student Accommodation Quality Mark, awarded where satisfaction among international students is 90% or higher.
  • Lancaster is ranked in the top three of the safest cities in the UK (Complete University Guide 2012), with some of the lowest crime rates in England and Wales.

Lancaster city

Lancaster's city centre is small enough to explore on foot and there are regular bus services linking it with the campus. It has cafés, cinemas, nightclubs, restaurants, pubs and small boutiques, plus well-known high street shops. A vibrant music scene, live theatre throughout the year and an annual literature festival complete the cultural picture.

It was designated as a Cycling Town in 2005 and so benefits from a network of linked cycle tracks both in the city centre and around the local area - so you can even be green whilst you explore!

With super rail, air and sea links nearby, Lancaster provides a fast and easy gateway to national and international destinations. Manchester and Liverpool can be reached in less than an hour and London is less than two and a half hours.
